Queer Spirit

The Queer Spirit Festival is a unique gathering for the LGBTQ+ community to come together and explore the sacredness of life through ceremonial and magical practices. Queen and Country finds out more.

This August in deepest Northamptonshire the third Queer Spirit Festival will take place over five days, offering community, pleasure, play and enrichment for body, mind and soul in beautiful countryside with camping space for 600.

Described as “transformative” and "a spirited lovefest like no other", the festival in Towcester features ceremonies, performance, workshops, dance parties, fire circles, drumming, sacred sexuality, activism, vegetarian/vegan cafes, saunas and accessible camping areas with activities for young people.

We live in times where the future looks uncertain, climate change is daily news and more people are looking to find new ways to come together as a community to support each other.

Our world has always been filled with magic, just look around you at nature; an eco-system that creates and supports all life, the planet we live on is a paradise, a magical world full of wonder, so why do we exploit it?

Those who have found a deep connection through spiritual practices have mentioned that the cause of this rupture is to do with our disconnection from that which feeds are soul. When we see the world as a ‘thing’ to take from, a lifeless object to be used, then nature loses its definition of ‘Thou’ and becomes a lifeless ‘it.’ When this occurs, we are separated, and we feel that loss deeply.

This same separation also occurs when society ostracises members who are different. We have seen this with laws that have criminalised sexual orientation over the decades and through those actions has come much suffering.

Queer Spirit is about embracing our uniqueness, exploring our connections to the land and our own personal history to a queer mythos that spans centuries. There has always been queer gods and transgender deities who have been symbols of the variety of human expression.

Queer Spirit Festival aims to create an eco-friendly place which helps to heal this disconnection, celebrating the sacredness of diversity. It is a safe place for everyone, with plenty of spaces to gather and enjoy the company of others. The festival also has strong green credentials when it comes to carbon offsetting.
